A lot of our food is prepared with exotic flavors, herbs and spices originating from dozens of developing countries. While we enjoy their taste, these Natural Herbs and Spices are an important source of income for tens of thousands of families and a important driver for rural development. 

The Dutch Herbs and Spices sector is committed to start the journey towards a more vital and sustainable sector. The working group consists currently out of the Verstegen, Euroma, Intertaste, UniSpices and the KIT.

NewForesight support the Sustainable Herbs and Spices working group in the design and set up of their Sustainability strategy and planning. We are actively looking for more (International) committed companies and NGO's to join this working group.

The BSI (Better Sugar initiative) production standard is now finalized. NewForesight is supporting the BSI in the development of the operational procedures to link certified sustainable sugarcane to responsible claims in end markets, identifying its operational strategy, coordinating the overall development process and synchronizing the different development tracks to make sure all procedures are aligned to create 1 unified operational BSI program.

NewForesight™ together with LizMuller, llc support and facilitate the development of the UNDP Green Commodities Facility (GCF). The main objective of the GCF is to create market driven, national strategies that involve local governments and institutionalise the market shift towards the production and sales of sustainably produced commodities.

NewForesight and LizMuller co-produce with the UNDP the GCF strategies and materials and will identify and assess market opportunities that are likely to be the strategic partners and funders of the GCF.

NewForesight, in cooperation with AidEnvironment, is performing an evaluation for ICCO of its “International Markets Program” of 2005 – medio 2009. The results of International Markets Program will be assessed on the basis of desk studies and selected case studies on the market chains of cotton, tropical fruits, timber and non timber forest products in Latin America and Africa.
